This herbaceous perennial is commonly found in ditches alongside the road. Its rhizomatic roots and drought tolerance make it a good candidate for restoration projects. Showy milkweed is very important to the Monarch butterfly. Not only do they feed on the nectar but their larvae will only feed on milkweed plants.
