Bur-reed is a perennial native emergent that grows well in seasonally or permanently flooded areas. Waterfowl love the seed. The entire plant is a favorite among muskrats and deer occasionally feed on the foliage. Needs cold-warm-cold-warm stratification to sprout. May not sprout until 2nd or 3rd year. Usually seeded in mixes.
